A Look at Electronic Voting Systems

Dr. Souradyuti Paul, Head of CSE at IIT Bhilai and former NIST/IIT Gandhinagar researcher, explored the intricate trade-offs between critical properties of secure voting systems — anonymity (P1), vote uniqueness (P2), verifiability (P3), and auditability (P4) — highlighting how strengthening one can weaken another.

The talk analysed solutions combining Linkable Ring Signatures (to preserve anonymity while detecting duplicate votes) and Blockchain (for tamper-proof auditing), while addressing unresolved challenges in trustless environments.
